Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (20-17, 18-15 PBC) closed the season in style Sunday with a 14-11 win over Augusta University (8-25, 4-24 PBC) on Senior Day at John Kurtz Field. With the win, the Bobcats swept the three-game series from the Jaguars.
The game had plenty of offense, as the two teams combined for 29 hits on the day. The Bobcats scored three runs each in the first, third and fifth innings, grabbing the lead in the third and leading 9-4 after the end of five.
Prior to the contest, the Bobcats honored their 13 seniors. Jay Saunders (Moultrie), Cassius Young (Atlanta), Cal Gentry (Perry), Noah Mendlinger (Alpharetta), Bryson Smeltzer (Savannah), Forrest Wilson (Marietta), Chris Rolick (Marietta), Matt White (Lakeland), Jacob Hester (Marietta), Connor Darling (Suwanee), Kyle King (Johns Creek), Tristen Thompson (Bishop) and Trevor Evans (Milledgeville) each put on the Blue and Green for the final time today. All of the seniors—save two—saw action in today's contest, as Darling is injured and Hester was the starting pitcher of game two of the series.
Junior Cam Hill (Marietta) pounded out a 4-for-5 game with a two-run home run, finishing with four RBIs and three runs. Hill's home run was his sixth this year. Mendlinger had three hits in four trips, driving in three and scoring once, while Gentry was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
Freshman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, all coming in on his second home run of the season in the third inning. Young was 2-for-4 with four runs and Saunders 2-for-5 with a run.
The win went to Smeltzer in a relief effort, tossing 3 1/3 innings, fanning six and allowing three runs. Sophomore Ashton Sturgell (Evans) got the final two outs for his first save.
