ORLANDO, Fla. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (3-4) extended its win streak to three with a pair of marathon wins over University of Mary (0-4) and Rollins College (3-2) in day one of the Rollins Invitational.
"Today was a great day for the Bobcats," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "We are definitely finding our stride and what works for us; this team is fighting and it's showing. I'm really proud of the way we are finishing out our matches. I'm looking forward to our challenge tomorrow."
The Bobcats started the day against the Mary Marauders, dropping the first set 25-16 before taking the next two 25-22 and 25-16. Mary rebounded with a 25-12 win in the fourth, but the Bobcats closed it out with a tight 15-11 final set. The Bobcats got kills from four different players in the final set.
Junior Sarah Mangan (Farmingville, New York) posted a team-high 12 kills on an impressive .391 hitting, flanked by 11 from freshman Callie Miller (Acworth, Georgia). Miller added 11 digs for her first career double-double.
Junior Lauren Talele (Woodstock, Georgia) had her own 38-assist, 12 dig double-double. The defensive numbers were spread out, as five different players had double-digit digs. Joining Talele was Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) with 18, Ally Hall (Cumming, Georgia) with 13, Miller with 11 and Sarah Stewart (Savannah, Georgia) with 10.
In the second match, GC again started in the hole after a 25-15 first set loss. The Bobcats evened things out with a 26-24 second, but then fell in the third 25-19. GC then took the fourth 25-23 then continued the momentum to a 17-15 final set.
Hall led the attack in this one, putting down 16 kills with 22 digs for a double-double. Stewart added 14 kills and a strong .257 hitting percentage. She also had a double-double with 20 digs. Mangan gave the Bobcats a third double-digit attacker with 11 kills.
Talele had 43 assists and 15 digs for another double-dip. DeSalvo led the Bobcats with 28 digs, and Miller pulled up 11.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Sept. 11 in day two of the Rollins Invite, playing Florida Southern College at 10 a.m. and Newberry College at 3 p.m.
