MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (3-5) came up short in a home match with the University of Montevallo (6-4) Thursday, a four-set match that began the Peach Belt Conference/Gulf South Conference Crossover at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats and Falcons battled in a tight 25-22 first set that went to Montevallo. After a bit more comfortable set two for the Falcons 25-19, the Bobcats took set three in extra points 27-25. Montevallo then closed the match with a 25-16 fourth set.
The Bobcats had a pair of attackers lead with 13 kills, as Ally Hall (Cumming) and Sarah Stewart (Savannah) tied for the team lead. Stewart added 14 digs for a double-double.
Setter Lauren Talele (Woodstock) added a double-double of her own with 40 assists and 17 digs. Libero Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) paced the Bobcats with 27 digs, while Callie Miller (Acworth) also reached double-digits with 10.
The Bobcats had trouble getting around a tough Montevallo front line, one that posted 12 team blocks.
With the 13 kills in today's action Stewart now has 448 in her career, passing Maggie Roper (2016) for eighth in school history.
GC Volleyball is back in action tomorrow, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m., taking on Valdosta State University in day two of the PBC/GSC Crossover.
