MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (4-8) finished off the Peach Belt/Gulf South Crossover in style Saturday with a four-set win over the University of West Alabama (0-5) at the Centennial Center.
Georgia College started out dominant with a convincing 25-17 first set, hitting an impressive .333. After a 28-26 stumble in set two, the Bobcats swept the final two 25-17 and 25-15. The Bobcats hit a whopping .350 in the clincher.
The attack was firing on all cylinders today, as GC had three double-digit attackers. Sophomore Ally Hall (Cumming) led with 17 kills, flanked 14 from sophomore Sarah Stewart (Savannah) and junior Sarah Mangan (Farmingville, New York) at 13. Mangan was next to unstoppable, hitting a blistering .429 for the match.
Stewart had 18 digs as well, leading the team and posting a third-straight double-double. Also with a third double-double in a row was junior Lauren Talele (Woodstock), at 47 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) added 17 digs to the cause.
Freshman Mary Kate Kotzin (Dunwoody) made her presence felt on the front line with seven blocks, helping the team to 11.5 as a squad, just a half block away from the school record for a four-set match.
In the day's action, Talele picked up two services aces, giving her 44 in her career, moving the junior to a tie for seventh place with Caroline Ham (2015). Talele also now has 686 career digs, passing Katie Ray (2016) to move into seventh place.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m., playing host to Augusta University for the start of Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play.
