Box Score 2 Bobcat Volleyball Drops Two at Erskine to Open Season
DUE WEST, S.C.- The GC Volleyball team (0-2) kicks off the season on the road at Erskine College with two five set losses.
The first match for the Bobcats was against the University of West Georgia (1-0). The match ended in a five-set loss for GC. The Bobcats had five close sets with the Wolves with the highest point deficit being at eight.
The Bobcats had no shortage of kills in their match with West Georgia. Ally Hall (Cumming, Georgia) led the charge with 22 kills. The veteran Bobcat Sarah Stewart (Savannah, Georgia) backed her up with 12 kills.
Lauren Talele (Woodstock, Georgia) tallied 39 of the 47 assists in match one on the day.
GC fought hard in their five sets with the Wolves recording 61 digs. Bella DeSalvo (Hamilton, Ohio) provided a bulk of the digs on the match with 21. Talele patrolled her side of the court recording 15 digs.
Hall and Talele both recorded double-doubles on the night. Talele recorded 15 digs and 39 assists in match one to propel her team to five sets. Hall recorded 22 kills and 10 digs for her first career double-double.
Match number two for GC was against the tournament host Erskine. The game was back and forth with the Bobcats winning sets two and four while Erskine took sets one, three, and five.
Hall and Stewart led the offensive charge with 15 kills apiece. Hall recorded two service aces in match two as well.
37 of the 42 assists on match two were from the hands of Talele.
DeSalvo and Talele led the defense in digs. Talele recorded 20 while DeSalvo dug 17 in the match. Sophomore Callie Miller (Acworth, Georgia) backed up her teammates on defense as well recording 15 digs.
Hall and Talele were not finished in game one as they both picked up their second double-doubles on the day. Hall added 15 kills to her 13 digs for match two. This brings her total kills to 37 and her total digs to 23. Talele had 37 assists to her 20 digs. She picked up 76 total assists on the day with 35 digs.
The GC Volleyball team is back in action Saturday, September 4 to take on Francis Marion at 8 a.m. and Shorter at 4 p.m. Both games are at Erskine with the live stats and the broadcast available at gcbobcats.com.
