Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Soccer team (2-0) defeated Anderson University (0-2) in a nailbiter finish Monday, 2-1. The Bobcats close out the 2021 Bobcat Kickoff Classic with a pair of victories.
All of the scoring for both squads came in the second half. With the match tied 1-1 heading into the final minute and almost assured a trip to overtime, senior forward Cassie Balzano (Douglasville) made sure to send the fans home happy.
With 51 ticks left, a cross came from the left side, bounced off a couple of players for both teams, and then after a gathering touch from Alexis Bergamini (West Suffield, Connecticut), Balzano found the back of the net for the thriller.
The goal was Balzano's second of the day, the first coming off a pass from Alyssa Bergamini (West Suffield, Connecticut) in the 47th minute. The Trojans knotted the match at 1-1 on a Chanley Pfingston goal just over 12 minutes later to set up the last-minute Bobcat heroics.
Balzano posted two more goals to add to her season total of three bringing her career total to 27. Alyssa posted her eighth career assist with twin Alexis posting her fifth.
The Bobcat defense kept the Anderson offense away from the goal only allowing them five shots on goal. Goalkeeper Kate Richardson (Marietta) had four saves holding the Trojan offense to one goal. The Bobcats outshot Anderson with 12 shots on goal giving the pair of Trojans in the goal 10 saves.
GC outshot the Trojans 22-8. The Bobcats capitalized on the corner kicks as well claiming five more than Anderson.
