MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior guard Jordan Thomas (Conyers) became the first Bobcat with 2,000 career points Saturday, helping lead Georgia College Men's Basketball (14-3, 6-2 PBC) to a 63-54 win over Clayton State University (6-9, 1-5 PBC) at the Centennial Center.
Thomas finished with 12 points, but picked up the milestone score with his first point of the game, a free-throw at the 17:07 mark in the first half.
Junior Chris Parks (Buford) led GC with 13 points, shooting 6-for-7 from the field and hitting his lone three-point attempt. He also nabbed seven boards, including four on the offensive glass. Classmate Christian Koneman (Chatsworth) came off the pine for a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double, his second this season.
In a defensive battle, the Bobcats held the Lakers to just 16 points in the first half, with the 54 final points being the least the Bobcats have allowed this season since 52 in the win at the University of North Georgia.
Laker center Jalen Shaw was tough to overcome, with a 22-point, 18-rebound effort. Despite that feat, the Bobcats out-rebounded Clayton 50-43 and won points in the paint 32-22.
Thomas becomes the fourth player in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) history to net 2,000 points, joining Francis Marion University's Detrek Browning (2018), Keshun Sherrill and Ben Madgen, both of Augusta University.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m., traveling to Lander University.
