MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball team (9-11, 5-4 PBC) came up short in a series sweep bid against USC Aiken (13-7, 4-5 PBC) falling in three Tuesday at the Centennial Center after Bobcat wins in each of the previous two meetings.
The Pacers took the first 25-17, a 26-24 win in extra points in set two and closed it out with a tight 25-22 effort in the third. The third set was a solid one for the Bobcat offense, hitting .216 and pounding out 14 kills.
Sophomore Ally Hall (Cumming) led with 12 kills, hitting .250. Junior Callie Miller (Acworth) aided the cause with seven. The team totaled eight blocks on the night, with Mary Kate Kotzin (Dunwoody) and Kyeli Hazzard (Heflin, Alabama) finishing at four each.
Senior Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) had 18 assists, while freshman Riese Johnson (Cumming) posted 10. Graduate student Rachel Machovec (Buckhead) led with 14 digs, freshman Alanis Bernis (Auburn) adding 10.
Hall finished the night with 12 points, all on kills. That effort gives the sophomore 591 points in her career, passing Sarah Mangan (2021) for ninth in school history. Long's assist total put her past the 900-assist mark in her career, just fourth Bobcat to pass that milestone. Machovec also joined the 900-dig club for her career, including her three seasons at Flagler College.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 14 at 5 p.m., playing host to Young Harris College. Saturday's match will serve as Senior Day, as the Bobcats will honor Long prior to the contest.
