MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball team (10-15, 6-5 PBC) lost to Peach Belt Conference (PBC) leader Augusta University (21-5, 9-2 PBC) in three sets Tuesday at the Centennial Center.
The Jaguars took the three sets 25-13, 26-24 and 25-11, extending Augusta's win streak to nine. The Bobcats had the most success in set two, pounding out 12 kills with .167 hitting.
Graduate student Rachel Machovec (Buckhead) led with 10 kills for the match, flanked by nine from junior Callie Miller (Acworth). It was Machovec's ninth match this season with double-digit kills. Senior Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) had 14 assists, while freshman Riese Johnson (Cumming) added 11.
Freshman libero Alanis Bernis (Auburn) recorded 16 digs to lead the way. Sophomore Brooke Roberts (Rome) led with four total blocks.
Long's assist total gives the senior 990 in her career, passing Micayla Patterson (2014) for third in school history.
The loss puts the Bobcats at 6-5 in PBC play, positioned fourth with four conference matches remaining.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m., traveling to Lander University. The two teams have split the previous two matches earlier this season.
