MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball team (11-17, 7-7 PBC) came up short in an attempt for a second-straight win over Flagler College (14-8, 8-5 PBC) instead falling in five sets Sunday at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21. With their backs against the wall, the Saints rallied, sweeping the final three frames 52-22, 25-23 and 15-9.
Graduate student Rachel Machovec (Buckhead) led with 15 kills for the match, with freshman Camryn Carlton (Buford) adding nine and junior Callie Miller (Acworth) eight. Machovec posted her second-straight double-double with 15 digs as well. Machovec added four aces and a block for 19.5 total points.
Senior setter Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) had 28 assists, while freshman Riese Johnson (Cumming) had a 16-assist, 14-dig double-double.
Freshman Alanis Bernis (Auburn) led the defensive effort with 25 digs. Sophomore Brooke Roberts (Rome) and junior Mary Kate Kotzin (Dunwoody) had five blocks each.
Roberts now has 125 blocks for the season, breaking the single-season school record of 122 set just last year by Sarah Mangan (2021). Also in today's action, Machovec passed the 1,000-dig mark for her career. She had 682 in her undergrad career at Flagler, added with 322 this season for 1,004 in her career.
The loss puts the Bobcats at 7-7 in PBC play, and will finish fourth in the league standings.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m., traveling to Flagler.
