AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball squad (8-10, 4-3 PBC) fell in three sets at 2021 NCAA Southeast Region Champion Augusta University (13-5, 5-2 PBC) Tuesday night.
The first set went to the Jaguars with a 25-19 score. Set two was the closest battle of the night, the Bobcats coming up short 25-22. Set three closed things out 25-11. Oddly, the first set was the best hitting one of the trio for GCSU, going for match-highs with 12 kills and a .143 attack percentage.
Graduate student Rachel Machovec (Buckhead) was a boxscore-filler with a 15-kill, 13-dig double-double, both team-highs.
Senior setter Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) had 12 assists and 10 digs, while freshman Riese Johnson (Cumming) also had a double-double with 10 assists and 11 digs. Libero Alanis Bernis (Auburn) added 11 digs to the cause as well. Brooke Roberts (Rome) led the blocking effort with five total, no surprise as the sophomore came into the match ninth in all of Division II with 78 this season.
Long's 12 assists give the senior 873 in her career, passing Mollie Michel (2015) for fourth in school history in tonight's action.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m., traveling to USC Aiken.
