AIKEN, S.C. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball team (9-10, 4-4 PBC) moved to 2-0 in the season series with USC Aiken (12-7, 3-5 PBC) winning a five-set battle Friday on the road.
The Bobcats took six of the last seven points in the match to clinch the win, capping with a Brooke Roberts (Rome, Georgia) kill for the win.
The two teams were evenly matched, going all the way to a 32-30 GCSU win in set one. USCA evened things out by taking the second 25-21. The Bobcats won set three, 26-24, then dropped set four 25-22 to set up the 15-12 set to win it in five.
The Bobcats had two attackers in double-digit kills, led by graduate student Rachel Machovec (Buckhead, Georgia) at 18. Junior Callie Miller (Acworth, Georgia) chipped in a career-high 15 to the cause.
Senior Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) had 21 assists and 15 digs, while freshman Riese Johnson (Cumming, Georgia) posted 18 assists. Freshman Alanis Bernis (Auburn, Georgia) led with 26 digs, Machovec with 18 and Long at 15.
The Bobcat blocking was busy again with 15 team blocks, led by Roberts with seven. Kyeli Hazzard (Heflin, Alabama) had six, and three more players added five each.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m., playing host to the USCA Pacers to finish off the season series.
