Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Georgia College Baseball team (2-4) fell by the slimmest of margins Friday night at Eckerd College (3-1), dropping a 6-5 decision.
The Bobcats led twice in the game, but fell in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the 10th. Freshman Joe Muzio sliced a pinch-hit single through the right side with the bases loaded and one out.
Third baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville, Georgia) tagged a pair of doubles in his four trips, scoring once. Freshman centerfielder David Julian (Dunwoody, Georgia) also went 2-for-4, driving in one and scoring another.
Righty starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody, Georgia) worked deep into the contest, allowing just three earned runs over six innings and fanning nine without a single walk. He exited with the game tied 4-4. Junior righty Josh Patterson (Bluffton, South Carolina) took the loss (0-1), allowing just a single run over two frames on three hits, fanning four.
The Tritons started the 10th with an out, followed by a hit batsman and a single. After a stolen base put runners on second and third with one out, next came an intentional walk to put a force at any base, setting up Muzio's heroics.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 12 at noon, playing game two of three at Eckerd.
