Box Score MORROW, Ga. – Senior Jordan Thomas (Conyers) made his presence felt, netting 32 points and leading Georgia College Men's Basketball (20-5, 12-4 PBC) to a 79-71 victory at Clayton State University (8-18, 3-13 PBC) Saturday.
The victory helped the Bobcats achieve two big landmarks. GC reached the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2009-10 season, and the first time in head coach Mark Gainous' tenure. The win also helped the Bobcats clinch a top-four spot in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Standings, meaning that GC will host an opening-round PBC Tournament matchup March 1.
Thomas shot a blistering 11-for-18 from the field, including 7-for-10 from long range. Graduate student Chapin Rierson (Calhoun) helped with 12 points off the bench, a season-high effort. Freshman Luke Chism (Dawsonville) had a near double-double with 11 rebounds and nine points, and junior Wesley Simpson (DeLand, Fla./Union Grove HS [Ga.]) was a boxscore filler with seven points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
The Bobcats were dominant late in the first half, after the Lakers got out to an early lead. Points were a premium for both teams, as neither squad got into double digits until nearly nine minutes elapsed. The Bobcats enjoyed their largest lead of 36-19 with 1:13 remaining in the first half. GC has won four straight.
The win puts GC at 12-4 in PBC play, just one game out of the tie for first in the league standings.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m., traveling to No. 21 Flagler College.
