Box Score 2 ANDERSON, S.C. – The Georgia College Softball team (6-10) got a seventh-inning rally to work a split at No. 19 Anderson University (16-2) Friday, losing game one 11-0 and rebounding with an 8-6 victory.
The Bobcats had few highlights in game one, tallying just a pair of hits in the 11-0 loss. The nationally-ranked Trojans looked every bit the part as Macy Banks (Homer, Georgia) took the loss (2-2), unable to escape the second inning.
Game two was a thriller. Down 6-5 heading into the seventh and final inning, shortstop Sydney Newberry (Springfield, Georgia) led off with a home run to left center to tie the game, the first of the sophomore's career.
A single, followed by an error, then a fielders' choice groundout and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with two out. Designated player Divina Checo (Marietta, Georgia) then tagged a double to left center, plating a pair to put GC up 8-6. The Trojans were able to get the tying run to the plate in the bottom half, but the Bobcats sealed the upset without issue.
Playing first base Jessica Owens (Social Circle, Georgia) had a monster game, going 3-for-4 with a double an RBI and a run. Newberry finished 2-for-3 with the RBI and run. Catcher Shea Zweifel (Ormond Beach, Florida) drove in three, ripping a three-run shot to left center in the first. That round tripper was the first of her Bobcat career.
Montana Ledbetter (Hanna City, Illinois) got the start, but re-entered in the fifth to pick up the win (1-2) tossing 2 1/3 innings combined and allowing just a single run.
The Bobcats now have wins over two Nationally-ranked teams in the last week.
