MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – A poor shooting night kept the Georgia College Men's Basketball team (16-5, 8-4 PBC) from pulling off an upset against No. 23 Augusta University (18-3, 8-3 PBC), falling to the Jaguars 77-55 Saturday at the Centennial Center.
The Bobcats shot just 33% from the field and 21% from long range, well under their season averages. The six threes made by GC ties for the fewest this season, that previous effort coming at Augusta Jan. 5.
Senior Jordan Thomas (Conyers) had 16 points to lead the way for GC, adding five boards. Freshman Luke Chism (Dawsonville) added a career-best 13-point effort, also snagging a team-high seven boards.
The Jaguars did a lot of their damage at the free-throw line, going 22-for-30, while GC shot just 9-for-15. The Bobcats led points in the paint by a slim 26-24 margin. The Bobcats scored on their first two possessions, leading 5-0 early. The Jaguars responded with a 13-2 run to take the lead, one they would never surrender.
The loss puts GC at 8-4 in PBC play, good for fourth in the league standings. The top eight teams qualify for the PBC Tournament in March, with the top four getting to host an opening-round game.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m., traveling to USC Aiken.
