MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- The Georgia College Softball Team (0-4) took a 18-3 loss from Florida Tech (2-2) and a 5-4 eight inning loss from Emmanuel College (3-1) Sunday at the Peeler Complex, closing out the Georgia College Invitational.
The first matchup of the day was against Florida Tech where GC was out-hit by the Panthers. Carlie Behan (Cumming) was the lone player on the Bobcat offense with more than one hit. Behan had two multi-base knocks with a triple coming in the third inning and a double in the seventh.
Macy Banks (Homer) got the start and the loss for GC as she went 2 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.
The second game was a nail bitter as the matchup came to an end in the bottom of the eighth inning. Three Bobcats had multiple hits through the game including Eliza Khune (Sharpsburg), Brooke Lougher (Suwannee) and Shea Zweifel (Ormond Beach, Florida) who had two singles each. The big bat of Jessica Owens (Social Circle) came alive as she roped a triple to the left center wall. Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville) showed why she was the Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Shortstop as she got a hold of one and sent it over the leftfield fence to tie the ballgame at four a piece in the sixth inning, eventually forcing extra frames.
Golden Thrower (Hanahan, South Carolina) was put in for the relief effort and credited with the loss, despite looking sharp. Thrower (0-2) pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing only one earned run on five hits.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 12 for a doubleheader with North Greenville University. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. with live stats and video links available at GCBobcats.com.
