MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (12-9, 3-3 PBC) completed a sweep of a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series with Lander University (9-12, 1-5 PBC) by taking both ends of a doubleheader 8-7 and 11-1 at John Kurtz Field Sunday.
Game one was a thriller, as the Bobcats rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off with the win.
A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases to start the last-inning rally. A passed ball then made it a 7-5 deficit for the Bobcats. Rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) then chopped a single up the middle to score two more runs and tie the game. Another hit and a sacrifice bunt put GC with runners on second and third and just one out. After an intentional walk to load the bases, the Bearcats put the middle infielders at double-play depth. A grounder to deep second by designated hitter KC Brown (Savannah) was all it would take to plate Grazzini for the win.
Brown finished 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, including a solo home run in the third. The blast was his first this season and the fifth of his Bobcat career. Senior Austin Holloway (Social Circle) was 2-for-5 with a double, driving in a run. Third baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) added a pair of singles in four trips.
Lefty Aidan McAllister (Suwanee) got the win in relief. McAllister (2-0) spun a pair of scoreless innings with two hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Game two was a hit parade for the Bobcats, rattling out 13 hits over just six trips to the plate, including five extra-base knocks. The big inning was the first, where GC scored five runs, including a three-run blast from first baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville). The home run was Bellflower's third this season, and the fifth in his Bobcat career.
Lefty starter Jacob Hester (Marietta) dazzled hitters in the win. Hester (1-1) went five innings with just a single run on five hits and no walks. He struck out six Bearcats. Reliever Brennan Crooms (Metter) held them scoreless for the final two frames.
Bellflower finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs in game two. Grazzini went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run of his own, a shot to right that curled around the foul pole. It was his first this year, and fifth as a Bobcat. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs.
Catcher Sam Sly (Atlanta) added a double as part of a 2-for-4 day, scoring twice. Holloway also had two hits in four trips, scoring once and driving in another.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 18 at 5 p.m., traveling to USC Aiken.
