AIKEN, S.C. – The Georgia College Baseball team (14-9, 5-3 PBC) took two at USC Aiken (10-14, 3-5 PBC) Saturday, following a 9-5 opener with a 4-0 shutout for junior Davis Swenson (Toccoa, Georgia) in game two.
In game one, the Bobcats scored runs in each of the second through fifth innings to overtake the Pacers. Trailing 3-2 heading into the top of the third, Cam Hill (Marietta, Georgia) walked, stole second, then two wild pitches helped him cross the plate and tie the game.
Leftfielder Baylin Moore (Albany, Georgia) then yanked a pitch over the fence in right to give GC the lead. The home run was Moore's second of the game after tagging another solo shot in the previous inning. He now has three home runs this season.
Second baseman KC Brown (Savannah, Georgia) provided some insurance with a two-run blast of his own in the fifth. The round-tripper gave Brown home runs in back-to-back starts, and six in his Bobcat career.
Righty starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody, Georgia) spun eight innings for the win. Hudgins (3-1) allowed four earned runs on eight hits, striking out three.
Moore finished 4-for-4 with the two home runs, three runs scored and two RBIs. Brown had a 3-for-5 game with three RBIs and two runs, while designated hitter Mason Spivey (Appling, Georgia) had two doubles in three trips, two runs and an RBI. Rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta, Georgia) was 2-for-5 with a run.
Game two was all Swenson (3-1) as the junior righty surrendered just one hit, a single by Jackson Hannon in the fourth. He was caught stealing to end the inning, allowing Swenson to face the minimum of 21 batters over his seven innings. No one touched second base, and he sat down the final nine in a row, with four strikeouts over that stretch. Swenson finished with seven whiffs and not a single walk.
The Bobcats played small ball in game two, scoring two runs on groundouts, another on a wild pitch and the final run on a double by Austin Holloway (Social Circle, Georgia).
Third baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville, Georgia) was 3-for-4 with a run. Brown and first baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville, Georgia) each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Bobcats and Pacers finish the three-game series with a single contest tomorrow, March 20 starting at 1 p.m.
