Box Score
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (16-10, 6-4 PBC) fell 5-2 in the opening game of a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series at the University of North Georgia (16-11, 5-5 PBC) Friday night. The Nighthawks took an early lead and hung on for the victory.
UNG found itself down 1-0 before their first at-bat. The Bobcats used a trio of singles to plate their first run, capped by an RBI hit from KC Brown (Savannah).
The Nighthawks answered in a big way, rattling off five hits in the first for four runs. Pitching took over from that point on, as each team would only score once for the remainder of the game. The Bobcats had the game-tying run on deck in the eighth, but couldn't string enough together.
The Bobcats scattered their eight hits among eight different batters. Brown finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and designated hitter Mason Spivey (Appling) had the lone extra-base hit, a double.
Righty starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) took the loss. Hudgins (3-2) threw six innings, allowing five earned on 11 hits with four strikeouts. He only walked one batter, and held the Nighthawks scoreless in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings.
The Bobcats and Nighthawks finish the series with a doubleheader tomorrow, March 26 at 1 p.m.
