DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (16-12, 6-6 PBC) lost two vastly-different one-run ballgames Saturday at the University of North Georgia (18-11, 7-5 PBC) 11-10 and 2-1.
The first game featured plenty of fireworks, the Bobcats overcoming an early hole with a nine-run sixth inning to take a lead 10-9. In that frame, GC tallied eight hits, sending 13 batters to the plate. Paul Grazzini (Marietta) started the inning with a single, scoring the first run, and later in the inning ripped a two-run double to right center. Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) also doubled home a pair in the frame.
The Nighthawks got a run each in the seventh and eighth and hung on for the top of the ninth to nab the victory.
Grazzini finished 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Second baseman KC Brown (Savannah) added three hits in five trips, scoring twice and driving in one. Sapp also was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run, and designated hitter Mason Spivey (Appling) had two doubles, a run and an RBI.
Righty reliever Ashton Sturgell (Evans) took the loss for his first decision this year. He went an inning with a run on two hits.
Game two was a pitchers' dual that went extra innings, finishing in the ninth as it was scheduled for seven. A quartet of Bobcats held UNG scoreless for the first seven frames. Starter Brennan Crooms (Metter) threw 4 2/3 with just three hits, turning it over to lefty Luc Scudellari (Roswell) for two innings and five strikeouts and only two hits. Aidan McAllister (Suwanee) hit the one batter he faced, then Josh Patterson (Bluffton, South Carolina) entered for the final out of the seventh.
An Austin Holloway (Social Circle) home run in the eighth gave GC its first lead. The round-tripper was Holloway's first this season and third in his career. UNG's Riley Frost then took over from there, providing run-scoring singles in both the eighth and ninth for the walk-off win.
Patterson (0-2) went 1 2/3 innings in the loss, picking up a pair of strikeouts.
Brown was the only multi-hit performer for GC in game two, as the squad had just seven for the game. He went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, March 30 at 5 p.m., playing host to No. 13 Newberry College.
