MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Using a six-run second and some strong middle relief, the Georgia College Baseball team (17-12) upset No. 18 Newberry College (27-7) 12-6 Wednesday at John Kurtz Field. The win gives five in a row at home.

Down 3-0 before coming to the plate, things looked difficult early for the Bobcats. A big six-run second inning turned the tide. In that frame, Mason Spivey (Appling) provided a two-run home run, and KC Brown (Savannah) a three-run shot.

Newberry answered with two in the third to make it 7-5, but the Bobcat relief took over from there with four-straight scoreless innings. Three of them came from lefty Reid Robertson (Marietta) and the fourth from another lefty in Aidan McAllister (Suwanee).

A big three-run blast from third baseman Ben Tuten (Bristol) in the seventh helped seal the victory for GC. The home runs for Tuten and Spivey were both their first in a Bobcat uniform. Brown now has four home runs this year, doubling his career total at Georgia College.

Tuten finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs. First baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) had a 4-for-4 game with a double and three runs scored. Second baseman Austin Holloway (Social Circle) had two hits in four trips, scoring a run.

Robertson (2-0) picked up the win, throwing three scoreless innings with three hits and a walk, fanning two.

This is the third victory over nationally-ranked competition for the Bobcats this year.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 1 at 6 p.m., playing host to Flagler College.
