MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (24-16) fell victim to one big inning in an 8-3 loss to the University of West Georgia (20-18) Tuesday at John Kurtz Field.
The Wolves put up five runs in the second inning and never looked back. It took until the eighth for GC to scratch across a run, as the Wolves used seven pitchers to keep the Bobcats off balance.
West Georgia did all of its damage in the second with two out. The Wolves finished with five runs in five hits in the inning, including a two-run double from leftfielder Davis Schwartz.
Trailing 8-0, GC put in a single run in the eighth on an Austin Holloway (Social Circle) single, then added two more on a wild pitch and a ground out in the ninth before the rally stopped there.
Holloway finished 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, plating the one run. Leftfielder David Julian (Dunwoody) also had a pair of hits, scoring once.
Lefty starter Reid Robertson (Marietta) took the loss (2-1), unable to escape the busy second inning. The Bobcats did get strong relief from righty Aidan McConnell (Roswell) with 3 1/3 innings scoreless. Luc Scudellari (Roswell) and Josh Patterson (Bluffton, South Carolina) combined to not allow a hit for the final three innings of work.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, April 22 at 6 p.m., traveling to No. 2 Columbus State University.
