MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – In a couple of hotly-contested ballgames, the Georgia College Baseball team (20-12, 9-6 PBC) swept a doubleheader from Flagler College (16-1, 9-7 PBC) 7-5 and 4-3 Saturday at John Kurtz Field.
Game one saw GC jump in front early, then the Saints come back to take a late lead. Flagler picked up runs in the fourth-through-seventh innings, taking a 5-4 lead to the seventh-inning stretch.
A fielder's choice RBI tied the game in the seventh, then the Bobcats picked up two in the eighth to get the victory. GC took the lead on a wild pitch, then scored their insurance run on another wild toss later in the inning.
Shortstop KC Brown (Savannah) was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, scoring once in game one. First baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) went 3-for-3 with a run, and designated hitter Mason Spivey (Appling) had a pair of singles in four trips with a run scored as well.
Righty reliever Ashton Sturgell (Evans) picked up the win. Sturgell (1-1) went two scoreless frames, allowing just a single hit and fanning one.
Game two saw Flagler take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third, where GC upended the Saints and plated three runs. Austin Holloway (Social Circle) drove in one with a single, Cam Hill (Marietta) tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and Brown doubled home the go-ahead run.
The lead was short-lived, as Flagler tied the game in the fourth. Designated hitter Ben Tuten (Bristol) put the Bobcats ahead for good with a home run just shy of the scoreboard in left center. The blast was Tuten's second this week and his Bobcat career.
Righty starter Brennan Crooms (Metter) picked up the win. Crooms (3-2) went 4 1/3 in the seven-inning contest, allowing three runs and striking out four. Lefty Luc Scudellari (Roswell) spun the final two frames scoreless for the save, his third.
The Bobcats picked up the win in game two despite getting out-hit 11-6.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 6 at 5 p.m., playing host to No. 12 Valdosta State University.
