COLUMBUS, Ga.- The Georgia College Baseball Team (26-17, 15-9 PBC) picked up the series win over Columbus State University (35-8, 18-5 PBC) splitting the doubleheader with a 14-7 loss and a 6-1 win, Saturday.
Game one had no shortage of offense from both sides while GC was able to plate seven runs on 13 hits. Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) got the first hit and run of the contest for GC with a solo home run. The following inning Paul Grazzini (Marietta) scored the second run of the contest on a moon shot over the right field fence to put the Bobcats in front 3-2. Sam Sly (Atlanta) brought the big bat to follow with a two RBI double up the middle. With the bases loaded for GC, Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) drew a walk to bring around the fourth run of the inning. KC Brown (Savannah) came to the plate in the fourth inning bringing around David Julian (Dunwoody) for the fifth run of the game. After going quiet until the ninth inning, Grazzini showed off some speed, coming around to score on a wild pitch. Cam Hill (Marietta) drove the final run for GC across with a single to right field. The Bobcats ultimately took the 14-7 loss.
Game two was the series winner for the Bobcats as they nabbed six runs on nine hits. Julian started the hot bats for GC with a solo homer to knot the game at one in the third inning. With the game still tied at one, Bellflower blasts one over the rightfield fence to put the Bobcats in front 2-1 in the fourth. A quiet fifth for GC then a three run sixth starting out with a fielder's choice by Hill to bring around a run. Sapp followed with a three-base blast to centerfield to bring around two more. Bellflower finished off the scoring for GC in the seventh on a single through the right side. The Bobcats took the 6-1 win, taking down No. 2 CSU.
Brennan Crooms (Metter) got the start and the loss in the circle for GC in game one. Crooms (5-3) went three and a third innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits. The Bobcats cycled through three more pitchers to round out the first contest.
Jacob Hester (Marietta) got the win in the series winner for GC. Hester (4-1) went four innings allowing the lone run in the first inning on five hits. Davis Swenson (Toccoa) finished the contest, throwing three innings only giving up one hit to earn him the save.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, April 26 on the road at Southern Wesleyan University. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. with live stats and video links available at GCBobcats.com.
