Bobcat Baseball Slugs Way to Win at Augusta, 14-5

AUGUSTA, Ga. – With three home runs and 15 total hits, the Georgia College Baseball team (28-17, 16-9 PBC) beat Augusta University (14-32, 6-20 PBC) 14-5 on the road Friday afternoon, starting a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series off on the right foot.

Catcher Sam Sly (Atlanta) put the Bobcats in front for good in the fifth with a solo home run to left center. Rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) added a two-run shot and first baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) a three-run blast, both to right, and both in the sixth inning.

Righty starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) was the beneficiary of the run barrage. Hudgins (6-3) allowed just a pair of runs on seven hits and two walks over his six innings, fanning four.

Grazzini finished the game 3-for-7 with four RBIs, adding a pair of doubles to the cause, finishing with four RBIs and two runs. The home run was his sixth this season. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) was 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.

Sly finished with two hits in five trips, scoring once and driving in one. The blast in the fifth was his second this year. Bellflower was 2-for-5 as well, driving in four and scoring twice.

The win puts Georgia College at 16-9 in PBC play, good for third in the league standings. The top eight teams advance to the conference tournament, with the top four hosting first-round series action.

The Bobcats and Jaguars finish the three-game series with a doubleheader starting tomorrow, April 30 at noon.
