Box Score 2 AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (30-17, 18-9 PBC) took two games at Augusta University (14-34, 6-21 PBC) Saturday, 14-5 and 12-10, sweeping the final Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series of the season.
Game one was a hit parade for the Bobcats, as they finished with 20 for the game, including at least one for each batter in the starting lineup. GC used a big five-run fifth, highlighted by a two-run single from catcher Sam Sly (Atlanta). Two innings later GC plated four more runs to push it further out of reach. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) added a home run in that frame, a two-run shot to right center.
Hill finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs. Shortstop KC Brown (Savannah) added four hits in six trips, scoring three times and driving in two. Designated hitter Mason Spivey (Appling) added a 2-for-3 game with a run and an RBI, while leftfielder David Julian (Dunwoody) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Second baseman Austin Holloway (Social Circle) had two hits as well, recording an RBI and a run.
Righty starter Brennan Crooms (Metter) picked up the win in 6 2/3 innings of work. Crooms (6-3) scattered seven hits for just two earned runs and fanned seven.
Game two was a barn-burner that ended in the eighth, an extra-inning effort as it was originally scheduled for seven.
GC trailed 6-5 heading into the top of the seventh, then got two runs to take the lead. Brown provided both tallies on a double to left. The Jaguars answered back with a run in the bottom half to force extra innings.
The Bobcats touched the plate five times in the eighth, the big blow being a two-run single from Matthew Chester (Evans). The Jaguars did their best to rally in the bottom of the eighth, including a three-run home run from centerfielder Skylor Murphy, but the rally halted there.
Righty Davis Swenson (Toccoa) grabbed the win in relief. Swenson (4-1) went two innings, allowing three earned runs.
Brown was 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a run, tagging a pair of doubles. Rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) was 2-for-3 with a run. First baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) had a 2-for-4 game with a run and RBI, while designated hitter Ben Tuten (Bristol) also had two hits in four trips, scoring once.
The win puts the Bobcats at 18-9 in PBC play, good for second place in the league standings. Georgia College could finish with either the No. 2-seed or No. 3-seed for the PBC Tournament, depending on tomorrow's league action. Regardless, the Bobcats have clinched a spot to host an opening round series for the conference tourney May 6-9.
