MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Pitching was the name of the game Friday night as the Georgia College Baseball team (20-13, 9-7 PBC) lost to Georgia Southwestern State University (13-20, 9-7 PBC) 3-1 at John Kurtz Field.
The Hurricanes got all the runs they would need in the first inning. Catcher Gregory Wozniak punched a two-run home run to dead center with two out in the first.
GSW added an insurance run in the fifth, and it took until the seventh for GC to crack the scoreboard against a tough righty in Jared Donaldson.
KC Brown (Savannah) led off with a single, eventually coming in on a sacrifice fly from Baylin Moore (Albany), but it would be all the Bobcats could muster.
Donaldson finished with seven innings, allowing the one run on three hits and three walks, fanning six. He turned it over to Brandt Sundean for two shutout innings and a save.
Bobcat starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) was just as tough, posting eight innings with just a single earned run, scattering eight hits and three walks, striking out six.
First baseman Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) was 2-for-4 with a double.
The Bobcats and Hurricanes finish the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series tomorrow, April 9 with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
