Box Score 2 MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Baseball team (21-14, 10-8 PBC) rebounded from an opening 13-10 loss to take the nightcap of a doubleheader 6-4 from Georgia Southwestern State University (14-21, 10-8 PBC) Saturday at John Kurtz Field. The Hurricanes won the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series 2-1.
Game one was a contest of massive momentum shifts. GSW jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the fourth, and the Bobcats finally evened it out with a four-run sixth and three-run seventh. Rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) provided three-run home runs in each of those two innings.
The Hurricanes got four in the eighth to jump back in front, GC pulling within one with three in the bottom half. A two-run ninth helped the Hurricanes put it out of reach.
Grazzini finished 2-for-5 with the two three-run shots, finishing with the six RBIs. Freshman David Julian (Dunwoody) added a 3-for-4 effort with two runs and a double.
Lefty reliever Bryce Bowen (Bowman) took the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season. The Bobcats had some great early-game relief, getting 2 1/3 innings scoreless from Jacob Hester (Marietta) and a scoreless frame from Josh Patterson (Bluffton, South Carolina) to set up for that seven-run comeback.
Game two saw a strong pitching effort from righty Brennan Crooms (Metter). Crooms (4-2) threw five innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out a pair.
Julian got the Bobcats in front with his first collegiate home run in the second, a two-run shot. Insurance came from a solo blast by Brandon Bellfower (Milledgeville) in the third. After GSW cut the lead to 3-2, Julian drove in another run with a single in the sixth, followed by a run-scoring single from Austin Holloway (Social Circle) and an RBI double by Cam Hill (Marietta).
The Hurricanes made it interesting with a pair of runs in the seventh and final inning, but could inch no closer.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, April 12 at 5 p.m., traveling to No. 12 Valdosta State University.
