COLUMBUS, Ga. – Shortstop KC Brown (Savannah) ripped a two-run shot – his second of the game – to left center, providing a 10th inning walk-off win for Georgia College Baseball (33-18) 6-5 over Georgia Southwestern State University (27-26) in the opening round of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament bracket Friday.
The No. 2-seed Bobcats remain in the winner's bracket of the four-team double-elimination tourney to determine the PBC Champion. GC will now face No. 4-seed Young Harris College tomorrow, May 14 at 11 a.m. No. 3-seed GSW takes on No. 1-seed and host Columbus State University tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Down 5-4 after a solo shot from GSW's Gregory Wozniak, GC rightfielder Paul Grazzini (Marietta) led off the 10th with a single, and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Brown then blasted a pitch to left center and was mobbed by his teammates as GC won it 6-5.
"Honestly I'm numb," Brown admitted after the game. "I don't know really what just happened, but I'm really glad we won. That was a crazy game. It's going to be a really quick turnaround to tomorrow, but I'm looking forward to competing and getting after it."
The Bobcats trailed 2-0 in the sixth and tied it up there, driving in one on a double play ball and the second on a solo shot from Brown. The seventh saw GC take its first lead, taking advantage of a GSW error and adding a sac fly for a 4-2 advantage in the seventh.
Hunter Foster put one over the fence in the eighth, then the Hurricanes added another on a sacrifice fly in the ninth to force extra innings. Things looked good for GSW in the 10th after the Wozniak home run, but Brown had other plans.
Brown finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs. Centerfielder Cam Hill (Marietta) had a 3-for-4 game with a run and a double. Grazzini finished 2-for-5 with a run.
Lefty reliever Austin McAllister (Suwanee) picked up the win. McAllister (3-0) went 2 2/3 innings with three runs on four hits, no walks and four strikeouts.
The Bobcats take on YHC tomorrow at 11 a.m. GC will look for a measure of revenge after being swept by the Mountain Lions in the regular season.
