MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Soccer (4-3-1, 3-0 PBC) took a 2-0 win over Georgia Southwestern State University (4-3-1, 1-2 PBC), Saturday for the best conference start since 2010. GCSU is also the only team in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) with a 3-0 conference record as they now sit atop the conference rankings.
The GCSU offense was hot in the Saturday afternoon contest against conference foe GSW. The Bobcats rifled 12 shots in the contest with nine on goal. Ava Martin (Gainesville) led the shooting with three shots all on goal. Sarah Mason (Atlanta) lit a fire under the offense as she had two shots on goal one of which found the back netting for the first goal of the contest. Mason got the cross inside the 18-yard box from Aralyn Everett (Covington) and finessed the Hurricane defenders to put the Bobcats up 1-0 in the 72nd minute of play. Morgan Amrozowicz (Dacula) followed suit in the 83rd minute, knocking in the second goal of the game. Amrozowicz got the cross from Mason to shoot it from the left side of the penalty kick arc for the goal.
Goalkeeper Kate Richardson (Marietta) picked up her second conference shutout and third overall of the season. With those three shutouts Richardson has secured the third most shutouts in program history with 11 to surpass Michelle Parr (2005). Richardson also picked up her fourth win of the season to give her 22 career wins good for the third best in program history passing Jessica Catapano (2016). To close out an already impressive game for Richardson she had six saves on the night to give her 210 on her career to tie Parr for the fourth slot in program history.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 24 at Bobcat Field to take on Flagler College (3-1-2, 2-0-1 PBC). Kick off is set for 1 p.m. with live stats and broadcast links available at GCBobcats.com.
