MARS HILL, N.C.- Georgia College & State University Volleyball (3-2) picked up two three set victories. The first was over King University (2-5) and the second was over Coker College (3-3) on Friday.

The first contest of the day for the Bobcats was against King. Callie Miller (Allatoona, Ga.) led the offense tying her season high of 13 kills. Miller was also part of two blocks on the day which kept the Tornados from getting an upper hand. Senior Setter Emily Long (Mooresville) led the squad in assists with 23 of the 42. On the defensive side of things, graduate transfer Rachel Machovec (Buckhead, Ga.) led the team with an impressive 27 digs and three total blocks. Machovec also led the team in service aces with two.

The match started hot for the Bobcats as they had 18 kills in the first set. They kept the swings going into the second and third sets as they had 14 and 12 kills respectively.

"Today was a great day for the Bobcats," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "The key to our success today was staying consistent and spreading the offense. Our defense kept the ball off the ground and all of our setters ran a good offense."

GCSU carried their success into game two of the day against Coker with yet another three set victory. Brooke Roberts (Rome, Ga.) led the offense for the Bobcats with eight kills and a hitting percentage .467. Camryn Carlton (Buford, Ga.) and Miller had the second most kills with seven apiece. Freshman setter Riese Johnson (Cumming, Ga.) led the team in assists with 15 while Long added 13. Three different players on the defensive side of things had double digit digs in Machovec with 13, Ally Hall (Cumming, Ga.) and Alanis Bernis (Auburn, Ga.) both had 12. Miranda Hardin (Cumming, Ga.) had an incredible serving day with a whopping four service aces.

GCSU also kicked off match two of the day hot, starting the first set with 16 kills. They kept the momentum alive going into the final two sets with a combined 19 kills between the two.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Sept. 3 to wrap up the Mars Hill Tournament. The first serve is set for 12:15 p.m. as GCSU takes on the host team.
