Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball team (8-9) outlasted a scrappy Albany State University squad (10-6) in a tough four-set matchup Tuesday at the Centennial Center.
Things looked to be a breeze early, as the Bobcats took the first two, 25-15 and 25-17. The Golden Rams turned the tables by taking a 25-16 win in the third, and GCSU closed it out with a tough 25-23 final set.
"The first two sets it was great to get everyone into the match," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "Set three we lost our focus, communication broke down and it didn't go our way. In the fourth we got our communication back together and pulled it out. I'm really proud of them for making that adjustment."
Graduate student Rachel Machovec (Buckhead) and sophomore Brooke Roberts (Rome) shared the team lead with 10 kills each, Roberts hitting a strong .435 for the night. The Bobcats used three total setters on the match, with senior Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) leading at 14 assists.
Freshman Alanis Bernis (Auburn) had 17 digs, sophomore Ally Hall (Cumming) added 10 to go with eight kills, and Machovec had her second-straight double-double with 12 digs.
The Bobcats are scheduled for more home action this weekend, but weather could force changes. Stay tuned to GCBobcats.com for more details as they arise.
