Box Score FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Volleyball team (3-4) got edged in four sets at Emmanuel College (3-6) in non-conference play Tuesday.
Emmanuel nabbed the first two sets quickly, 25-16 and 25-8, but the Bobcats made some adjustments and took set three 25-21. The fourth set had the same score, but in the Lions' favor to close the day.
The Bobcat attack was led by newcomer Rachel Machovec (Buckhead) tallying 11 kills, the first double-digit kill effort for the Preseason All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) pick. As always, senior Emily Long (Mooresville, North Carolina) and freshman Riese Johnson (Cumming) split the setting duties. Long posted a 17-assist, 10 dig double-double, and Johnson finished with 15 assists.
Freshman libero Alanis Bernis (Auburn) paced the defensive effort with 20 digs, the best effort of her young career. Sophomore Mary Kate Kotzin (Dunwoody) had six blocks individually, as the Bobcats posted nine as a team.
The Bobcats are back in action at the PBC/GSC (Gulf South Conference) Crossover hosted by the University of West Georgia. Play begins for the Bobcats Friday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. against the host UWG Wolves.
