AUSTIN, Texas | Georgia College & State University had two student-athletes -
Riese Johnson and
Brooke Roberts - named to the College Sports Communicators NCAA Divsion II Volleyball Academic All-District® Team.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and must be a have either played in 90 percent of their team's sets or started in 66 percent of their matches.
Johnson, a sophomore setter from Cumming, Georgia, earned her name on the list with a 3.64 cumulative grade-point average as a biology major. She led the Bobcats with 770 assists and 42 services aces. Johnson is third on the team in digs with 248 to go along with 23 kills and 15 total blocks. Johnson, who played in every set for GCSU and started 30 of the 31 matches, finished 2023 ranked third in the Peach Belt Conference in service aces and fourth in assists, aces per set (0.40) and assists per set (7.36).
Roberts, a senior middle blocker from Rome, Georgia, has posted a 3.76 GPA as a nursing major. In 78 sets and 23 matches started, she registered 77 kills with a .271 hitting percentage to go along with 0.99 kills per set. She collected 74 total blocks (18 solos, 56 assists). Roberts was second on the team in blocks and finished the season ranked fifth in the PBC with 0.95 blocks per set. She added 11 digs and three service aces.
The Bobcats finished their 2023 season with a 14-17 ledger.
The Division II CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects of the 2023-24 program.
