Box Score MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Baseball team (1-7) came up short in a non-conference battle with Newberry College (8-3), 7-4 Wednesday night at John Kurtz Field.
The Bobcats spotted Newberry two runs each in the second and third, then used a big four-run bottom of the third to tie it up. The Wolves then pushed away with run-scoring singles in the fifth and sixth and held the Bobcats at bay.
In the fourth, the Bobcats plated their first run on a Ben Tuten (Bristol) single. After a groundout scored the second run, designated hitter Baylin Moore (Albany) ripped a two-run home run to tie the game. The round-tripper was Moore's first this season and the sixth of his career.
The Bobcats used seven different pitchers in the game. Trey Felt (Lawrenceville), Mason Brown (Lilburn) and Reid Robertson (Marietta) broke up the final three scoreless frames, keeping the Bobcats in striking distance. Reliever Hunter Goodwin (Sylvester) took the loss (0-1) in 1 2/3 innings of work.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m., traveling to Flagler College.
