Box Score

TAMPA, Fla. – The Georgia College & State University Baseball team (1-1) fell short in an upset attempt at No. 7 University of Tampa (1-0) Friday night, 5-0.

The Bobcat pitching staff held its own, starting with Davis Swenson (Toccoa, Georgia). The junior righty got the first four innings, allowing just a pair of runs on four hits while fanning nine, but taking the loss (0-1).

Freshman Lex Kenny (Canton, Georgia) gave up a pair of earned runs in two innings with two strikeouts in his first collegiate action. John Luke Glanton (Metter, Georgia) held the Spartans scoreless and hitless for the final three frames, scattering a pair of walks and striking out three in his first college action as well.

The Georgia College bats were held in check, managing a trio of singles against three different Tampa pitchers. The Bobcats did manage to get five runners in scoring position throughout the game, but couldn't get the timely knock to avoid the shutout.

The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m., taking on the Spartans in game two of the three-game set.
