Box Score TAMPA, Fla. – For the second straight day, the Georgia College & State University Baseball team (1-3) took No. 7 University of Tampa (3-0) to the limit, the Bobcats falling in extra innings on the road, 5-3.
The majority of the game belonged to the Bobcats, getting a pair of RBI singles in the first inning and holding a lead until the bottom of the ninth.
At that point with the Bobcats up 3-1, Tampa tied the game with an RBI single of their own followed by a squeeze bunt. The Spartans completed the comeback an inning later, when EJ Cumbo ripped a two-run home run to right for a walk-off win.
Rightfielder Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville, Georgia) was 3-for-5, supplying one of the run-scoring singles in the first. Third baseman Ben Tuten (Bristol, Georgia) added a pair of hits in five trips, scoring once. Leftfielder Evan Cowan (Richmond Hill, Georgia) responded well to his first college start, tagging three singles in four at-bats.
The Bobcats broke up the pitching duties amongst six arms today. Starter Luc Scudellari (Roswell) threw well, allowing a single run on two hits with a strikeout over three frames. Lefty reliever Mason Brown (Lilburn) evened out his record at 1-1 with the loss.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m., hosting Eckerd College in a doubleheader.
