MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Baseball (8-11, 6-3 PBC) picked up two wins in the Saturday doubleheader with USC Beaufort (10-13, 4-8 PBC) for the first Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series sweep for GCSU.
Game one of the doubleheader was a 5-4 victory for the Bobcats. The Sandsharks plated two in the first inning then the pitching staff shut them down for seven scoreless innings.
GCSU chipped away at the USCB lead scoring a run in the first on a Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) RBI single up the middle.
The Bobcats had a two-run third inning to cut the Sandshark lead down to a single run. Ben Tuten (Bristol) plated the first run of the inning as he grounded out to the third baseman. Jaxon Weatherford (Charleston, South Carolina) scored the final run of the inning on a dinger launched over the right field fence to bring the game to 3-4.
GCSU had yet another two-run inning in the fourth to take a lead they would not surrender. Matthew Chester (Evans) put the ball in play and forced a USCB error to bring around two runs to put the Bobcats up 5-4.
Luc Scudellari (Roswell) picked up the win on the mound for the Bobcats. Scudellari (2-1) only allowed five runs through his six innings of work as he nabbed five strikeouts. John Raines (Powder Springs) closed the game and picked up his third save of the season in his loan inning of work.
The second game of the day was a pitcher's dual that resulted in a 3-2 GCSU walk-off victory. The Bobcats plated a single run in the fourth, sixth and ninth innings of the contest to leg out the win. The first run came on a Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) sacrifice fly to center field. Sapp came around to score in the sixth inning on a wild pitch to knot the game at two apiece. The walk-off came on a bunt by Dominic Arienzo (Madison) that forced an errant throw to bring the run across to score.
Trey Felt (Lawrenceville) got the start on the mound for GCSU nabbing nine strikeouts in six innings of work. Felt only allowed two earned runs on two hits. John Luke Glanton (Metter) picked up his first win of the season in his two and a third innings of work.
The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday, Mar. 14 at Southern Wesleyan University. The first pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. with live stats and broadcast links available at GCBobcats.com.
