MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Baseball team (10-12, 8-3 PBC) won two vastly different games in a doubleheader sweep of Augusta University (11-12, 6-8 PBC) Saturday at John Kurtz Field. The Bobcats took a pitchers duel 4-1 in game one then won a blowout 17-0 contest in the second game.

Game one had all of the scoring wrapped up by the fourth inning. Augusta took a lead in the top of the first, but Bobcats rallied with two in the bottom half and closed the door from there.

Senior starter Josh Hudgins (Dunwoody) went six innings, scattering four hits and an uncharacteristic five walks for just a single unearned run. Hudgins (3-1) tallied five strikeouts in the victory. Classmate Trey Felt (Lawrenceville) buzzed through the final three frames for his first Bobcat career save. He surrendered just two hits and fanned three.

Centerfielder Evan Cowan (Richmond Hill) set the table from his leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. First baseman Mason Spivey (Appling) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Designated hitter Baylin Moore (Albany) added a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI single in the first and a run.

Game two was an offensive barrage, as the Bobcats finished with 17 runs on 17 hits, getting hits from all nine slots in the batting order. Twice the Bobcats sent at least nine hitters to the plate in an inning. Rightfielder Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) took a 1-0 lead and busted it open in the third inning with a three-run moonshot to right field. Things got really comfortable after the six-run fourth inning.

Third baseman Ben Tuten (Bristol) had a 3-for-5 game, scoring three runs and plating two more. Bellflower finished with two hits in four at-bats, driving in five. The home run was his third this season and the 15th of his Bobcat career.

Cowan went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, while second baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) added an RBI double as part of his two hits, scoring two runs as well. First baseman Jaxon Weatherford (Charleston, South Carolina) had a pair of singles, an RBI and two runs.

Potentially lost in the fireworks was the best outing of senior Luc Scudellari's (Roswell) career. The lefty (3-1) cut through Augusta hitters for seven innings when the game was stopped by run-rule. He gave up just two singles, adding one walk and striking out nine Jaguars. Scudellari set down 11 in a row at one point, allowing just a single runner to touch second base.

The Bobcats and Jaguars are back at it tomorrow, March 19 at 1 p.m.
