AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Baseball team (12-14, 9-5 PBC) got locked in a pitchers' duel Saturday at Georgia Southwestern State University (16-9, 12-5 PBC) falling 3-1.
The Bobcats' Luc Scudellari (Roswell) matched up with GSW's Rijnaldo Euson in a battle of two of the top ERA pitchers in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). Euson entered with a 1.86, good for second in the league, and Scudellari was at 2.43, positioned sixth.
Euson (6-0) went seven innings with four walks and three hits for a single run. He added seven strikeouts. Scudellari (3-2) was strong as well, throwing five frames with four hits and four walks for a single earned run. The Bobcat lefty fanned nine. Freshman righty Lex Kenny (Canton) threw the final three innings scoreless with just two hits and two strikeouts.
The Hurricanes got a single run in the second and two more in the third, taking advantage of a Bobcat error. The Bobcats plated their run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from second baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville).
The Bobcats made things interesting in the ninth. After a pair of strikeouts, designated hitter Baylin Moore (Albany) reached on a walk. He then took third on a single from catcher Trey Ham (Perry) but a final out later, the rally halted there.
GCSU was held to just four hits on the day, all going for singles.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow, March 26 at 11 a.m., finishing the series with GSW.
