Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Baseball squad (5-11) got a big eighth inning to upset No. 39 Valdosta State University (13-6) 5-4 on the road Tuesday.
Down 4-3 into the eighth, third baseman Ben Tuten (Bristol) got the key rally started by getting hit by a pitch with two out. After a steal and an error put him on third, Tuten came in to score on a double down the rightfield line from first baseman Jaxon Weatherford (Charleston, South Carolina). Rightfielder Brandon Bellflower (Milledgeville) then sliced a single to left to plate Weatherford and give the Bobcats a late lead.
The Bobcat pitching took it from there, as lefty Reid Robertson (Marietta) and righty John Raines (Powder Springs) combined to shut out the Blazers for the final two frames. Raines tallied his second save this season. Sophomore Hunter Goodwin (Sylvester) tossed four scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win (1-1). Goodwin scattered just three hits and didn't walk a batter for his first Bobcat career victory.
Bellflower finished with three singles in four trips, scoring once and driving in the game-winner.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 10 at 5 p.m., hosting USC Beaufort.
