MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University Baseball team (14-15, 11-6 PBC) beat the University of North Georgia (18-16, 9-11 PBC) 6-3 Saturday at John Kurtz Field, evening the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series at a game apiece.
The Bobcats went up early, and got another great start from senior lefty Luc Scudellari (Roswell) to beat the Nighthawks. GCSU took a 2-0 advantage in the second, after centerfielder Evan Cowan (Richmond Hill) plated a pair with a single.
Second baseman Palmer Sapp (Dawsonville) added another RBI single in the fourth for a 3-0 advantage. UNG made things interesting with a pair of runs in the seventh, but couldn't score the equalizer.
GCSU got some much-needed insurance in the eighth thanks to a bases-loaded double off the bat of catcher Trey Ham (Perry). Ham finished 2-for-4 with the three RBIs and a run scored. His team-high hit streak now stands at eight.
Scudellari (4-2) made his fourth straight start of five innings or more. He has not given up more than three earned runs in any of those four starts, including today. He went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and three walks for a single earned run, fanning three. He turned things over to freshman righty Lex Kenny (Canton) who notched his first career save with 2 2/3 innings, a pair of hits and one run.
The Bobcats and Nighthawks close the three-game set with 1 p.m. start tomorrow, April 2.
