Big Bats Boost Bobcat Softball Over Augusta to Close Out the Series

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Georgia College & State University Softball (22-13, 9-9 PBC) picked up the series win over Augusta University (16-20, 3-15 PBC) in the Sunday 7-6 win. 

The Bobcat offense plated six of their seven runs in the third inning. Three Bobcats reached base on two singles and a walk to load the bases. Jessica Owens (Social Circle) stepped into the right-handed batter's box and blasted a grand slam to put GCSU up 4-0 in the top of the third inning. Emily Hobbs (Thomasville) rifled a two-base knock to left field for the second mutlibase hit of the inning Stephanie Condland (Hoschton) nabbed her second dinger of the year on a two-run shot to give the Bobcats the 6-0 lead. 

GCSU pushed the seventh run of the contest across on a sacrifice fly from Kam Caldwell (Athens) to make it a 7-5 game. The Jaguars kept it interesting plating a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring the game to 7-6. 

Montana Ledbetter (Hanna City, Illinois) got the start and the win in the circle. She (5-1) pitched two and a third innings only giving up three hits and fanning two batters. Jana Shellhorse (McDonough) closed the game by pitching four and two-thirds innings also only allowing three hits and striking out two.

The Bobcats return to the Peeler Complex Tuesday, April 4 at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. to take on Anderson University for the Tailgate Tour. Live stats and broadcast links will be available at GCBobcats.com.
