Bobcat Softball Breaks Out the Brooms in Doubleheader Sweep Over USCB

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

By: Bailey Clark, Sports Information Graduate Assistant

HARDEEVILLE, S.C.- Georgia College & State University Softball (25-19, 11-12 PBC) nabbed two wins over USC Beaufort (11-40, 3-23 PBC) with a game one 3-2 win and a 6-2 game two win.

Game one of the series favored the pitching in a low scoring ball game. The Bobcats had six hits all of which were base knocks. GCSU pushed all three runs in the top of the third innings on a bases-clearing single to center field from Madison Todd (Suwannee, Ga.). Todd went 2-for-3 in game one with three RBI as the only multi-hit player for Georgia College.

Jana Shellhorse (McDonough, Ga.) had a stellar performance picking up the start and the win in the circle for the Bobcats. Shellhorse (10-7) only allowed one earned run in her complete game effort picking up four strikeouts. With her 10th win of the season, this makes her the first Bobcat pitcher since the 2018 season to have double digit wins in a season when Jessie Morris did it with 13.

Game two had some more offensive power as GCSU plated six runs on 10 hits. Jessica Owens (Social Circle, Ga.) pushed around the first run on a sacrifice fly to center field. Mackenzie Martin (Dacula, Ga.) brought around run number two on a sacrifice bunt to put the Bobcats ahead in the first inning.

Katelyn Hobbs (Thomasville, Ga.) blasted her second round-tripper of the season in the second inning to tack on another run.

Owens would add on to her impressive RBI contest with an infield single in the fourth inning to make it a 4-1 game in favor of GCSU. Owens kept the runs coming on yet another sacrifice fly in the six inning to plate the fifth run of the contest.

MacKenzie Hoffman (Rocky Face, Ga.) pushed the sixth run across on a single up the middle to solidify the 6-2 win.

Montana Ledbetter (Hanna City, Ill.) picked up the start and the win in the circle. Ledbetter (6-3) pitched four innings while only allowing one run with two strikeouts. Shelby Jones (Kissimmee, Fla.) closed the contest only allowing one run with two strikeouts in three innings.

The Bobcats are set to close out the series with the Sand Sharks on Sunday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m. Live stats and broadcast links will be available at GCBobcats.com.
