Krumdieck Steps Down as Coach of GCSU Volleyball

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –  Georgia College & State University announced Wednesday Gretchen Krumdieck will be stepping down as head coach to pursue career options in her native Cincinnati.

"Gretchen has always had the student-athlete experience at the core of everything she does and we appreciate her efforts over the last decade," said Director of Athletics Wendell Staton. "She started this program from scratch and developed a strong foundation by recruiting outstanding people first and foremost. The Volleyball program has produced many outstanding graduates and teams along the way. She is always a team player and we wish her the best in her future endeavors."

The first coach for GCSU's most recent varsity sport addition, Krumdieck began her Bobcat career with a season of recruiting, then started the program's first season in 2013. In just five short seasons, the Bobcats were in the NCAA Tournament, with Krumdieck taking 2017 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Coach of the Year honors.

"This is a very bittersweet day," said Krumdieck. "I have loved starting this program and bringing so many smart and talented women to this University. I am so appreciative of Wendell Staton and President Preczewski for starting the volleyball program in 2012, Dr. Dorman for supporting us and President Cox for her continued support and being our biggest fan. The future is very bright for GCSU Volleyball."

Krumdieck finished her GCSU career at 117-162, coaching Bobcat players to AVCA Honorable Mention All-America, three All-Region honors, a PBC Player of the Year in Taylor Svehla, a PBC Setter of the Year in Kayla Brockway, and two PBC Freshmen of the Year.

She helped guide players to 10 All-PBC trophies and also coached CSC Academic All-American and PBC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Libby Bochniak.

Bobcat Athletics will undergo a national search for the next GCSU Volleyball head coach.
