CARROLLTON, Ga.- The Georgia College & State University volleyball team improved to 6-0 on the season as they picked up wins over St. Augustine's University and Concord University. Â
St. Augustine's was the first contest of the University of West Georgia Tournament for the Bobcats. GCSU took the 3-1 victory - 25-10, 14-25, 25-22, 25-14 - with Rachel Machovec picking up the double-double. Machovec led the team in kills with 11 and had the second most digs with 12. Â
Alanis Bernis led the defense for GCSU having 17 digs. Setter Riese Johnson also had a stellar game leading the team in service aces with seven and assists with 17. The great wall of Bobcats was at it again picking up eight block assists with Mary Kate Kotzin leading the charge with four. Â
Game two of the day for GCSU was a five-set victory (25-21, 17-25, 20-25, 25-16, 15-11 ) over Concord. Machovec showed out with yet another double-double as she had 21 kills to lead the team and 23 digs. Kotzin also had some offensive firepower with 10 kills good for her first double digit kill match of the season. Cadence Spilotros and Rosa Fisher both added seven kills apiece good for third most on the team.Â
Bernis yet again led the team in digs this time with 25. Olivia Alvarez, Johnson and Spilotros also had a double digit dig day with 10, 17 and 12Â respectively. Again the Bobcats showed their power at the net picking up 18 block assists. Kotzin led the blocking effort with six and Callie Miller not far behind her with four.Â
The Bobcats plays two contests Saturday (Sept. 9) to cap off the West Georgia Tournament. GCSU will start the day at 2 p.m. taking on Emory & Henry College and will play the host team West Georgia at 4 p.m. Live stats and broadcast links will be available at GCSUBobcats.com.Â
