HARTSVILLE, S.C. | Alanis Bernis joined the 1,000-dig club as she helped lead Georgia College & State University to a thrilling five-set non-conference volleyball victory over Coker University Tuesday (Oct. 29) evening at the DeLoach Center.
The Bobcats took the opening set 25-22 before the Cobras won the next two sets 25-21 and 25-22. GCSU tied the match at 2 with a 25-22 victory in set four before taking a 15-9 win in the pivotal fifth set.
GCSU snapped an eight-match losing streak as they improved to 8-14, while Coker fell to 3-15. The Bobcats return to Peach Belt Conference action with a 6 p.m. match Friday (Nov. 1) in Graniteville, South Carolina, against the University of South Carolina-Aiken.
Bernis had 16 digs against the Cobras to run her career dig total to 1,014 in 238 sets (63 matches) in her three seasons in a GCSU uniform. The junior libero from Auburn, Georgia is second in the PBC in total digs in 2024 and is now just the fifth Bobcat to record at least 1,000 kills in her career.
Camryn Carlton paced the Bobcats with 12 kills, six digs and five total blocks, while
Sarah Pipping and
Rosa Fisher tallied eight kills each. Pipping also posted four total blocks.
Cadence Spilotros recorded 15 digs and have four service aces.
Hayley Shepherd led the Bobcats with a career-high nine total blocks.
Sadie Parkerson distributed 20 assists, while
Lexi Baum had 13 more.
