Balanced attack leads GCSU over Wildcats 71-56

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Zyair Greene led three players in double figures as the Georgia College & State University men's basketball team led wire-to-wire and defeated Fort Valley State University 71-56 Tuesday (Nov. 26) evening at the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats improved to 2-4, while the Wildcats remained winless in five tries. GCSU returns to action Dec. 4 when they host Southern Wesleyan University in a 7 p.m. contest.

GCSU started the game on a 10-2 run after a James Nichols III layup with 15:39 to go. The Wildcats got within two points (21-19) with 7:11 left in the half, but the Bobcats used a 10-1 run to extended their lead to 11 points (31-20) on a Mason Etter jumper with 3:53 remaining before the half. Khalil Green converted two FVSU turnovers in the final 22 seconds into a dunk and a layup that sent GCSU in the locker room up 41-28.

The Bobcats extended their lead to as many as 15 points (47-32) after Greene hit two free throws with 17:11 to go. The closest that Fort Valley State would get the remainder of the game was eight points (57-49).

Greene led GCSU with 16 points and five rebounds, while Aidan Kudlas had 11 points and Tony Carpio added 19 points. Carpio and Nichols nearly each had a double double. Nichols had nine rebounds and seven points, while Carpio grabbed eight boards. The Bobcats held a 49-33 advantage on the glass as GCSU outscored the Wildcats 38-10 in the paint and 17-2 in second-chance points. Green finished with eight points, three asists and three steals.
