GCSU marches by Saints 88-82

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Brendan Rigsbee scored 27 points to lead Georgia College & State University past Flagler College 88-82 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball contest Saturday (Feb. 10) afternoon at Flagler Gymnasium.

The Bobcats improved to 10-12 overall and to 3-9 in the Peach Belt, while the Saints fell to 13-9 and 6-6. GCSU remains on the road Wednesday (Feb. 14) with a 7:30 p.m. league contest against the University of South Carolina-Beaufort in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Georgia College shot 59.0 percent (36-of-61) from the field, including a scalding 65.5 percent (19-of-29) in the second half. Flagler led 44-40 at the intermission and they pushed its lead to eight points at 48-40. GCSU scored the next seven points to close to a point (48-47) after a Rigsbee dunk with 16:43 to go.

The Bobcats took their first lead (60-51) of the second half on a Oscar Lynch layup with 10:58 to play. That jumpstarted a 17-4 run for Georgia College that saw them open up a 75-63 lead on a three-pointer from Ian Davis with 6:23 remaining. GCSU held a 10-point lead (84-74) with 1:38 to play, but the Saints reeled off the next eight points to close within two points (84-82) with 19 seconds to play. The Bobcats quelled the comeback by sinking four free throws to seal the win.

Rigsbee went 11-of-17 from the field for the Bobcats, while Austin Sloan went 5-of-7 from the floor as he added 12 points. Aidan Kudlas finished with 10 points. Sloan led GCSU with nine rebounds and dished out five assists. Brady Spence contributed nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
